Noo Saro-Wiwa has called for the the State pardon of her father, Ken Saro-Wiwa and 8 others killed by the Gen. Sani Abacha’s regime for fighting for their people against the government over environmental degradation of Ogoni land by the Oil Producing Companies, notable among them, the Shell Producing Development Company (SPDC).
Ken was secretly tried by a Tribunal which sentenced him and 8 of his colleagues to deal by hanging in 1995. A judgement that was condemned worldwide. Saro-Wiwa’s killing by the Abacha’s military junta led to various sanction from the international communities, including Commonwealth of Nations.
Noo Saro-Wiwa in a tweet to remember her late father, said;
“25 yrs ago today, my father #kensarowiwa was murdered by #Nigeria ’s gov’t simply for pursuing human rights for the #Ogoni people in the #nigerdelta. The gov’t still hasn’t pardoned him and his 8 colleagues. They were innocent men.”
