Bitumen mining begins in Ondo State, equipment arrives at Irele for operations

This will greatlfor off takers to buy and use for construction will be available in Ondo State soon as Southwest Bitumen Limited commences pilot scale operations for exploration in Irele LGA.

According to the representative of the mining company, Southwest Bitumen Limited, Engr. Niyi Adeiya who spoke with Journalists on the arrival of some production equipment at the bitumen yard in Irele local government area of the state, the equipment are a product of German Technology.

Also, the mining Site engineer Wilfred Akinyeke said, about 20,000 to 50,000 metric tonnes of Bitumen would be produced per month at the site, adding that land owners within the bitumen site would be adequately compensated.

The company, Southwest Bitumen Limited has been working with the Ondo State Government since 2017 and was granted the first Mining license, through the Fed Ministry of Mining, for bitumen in Nigeria at the Presidential Economic Diversification Initiative conference in Akure in 2017.

The state commissioner for information and orientation Mr Donald Ojogo said the project further demonstrates governor Akeredolu’s committment towards industrialising the state.

Chief Executive Officer of the Ondo State Development and Investment Promotion Agency (ONDIPA) Mr Boye Oyewunmi said the commencement of the Bitumen exploitation has put to rest the argument that the Ondo state bitumen project is not doable.
