A Chinese firm, Yongxing Steel Company, which operates at Utesi, in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area (LGA) of Edo State has donated items worth over N120 million to the Edo State government.
This was made known by the governor, Godwin Obaseki in a statement this evening.
According to the Gov. Obaseki, the State “received 350,000 facemasks, 10,000 pairs of medical gloves, 18,000 pieces of test kits, 200 cartons of disinfectant and 40 pieces of decontamination equipment, valued at over N120 million from the management of Yongxing Steel Company.”
The governor also noted that the donation is one of the largest contributions the State has received in the fight against COVID-19.
On the importance of the donation to the State at this critical time, Gov. Obaseki pointed out that;
“The donation of 350,000 facemasks by Yongxing Steel Company came at the right time, as it will help us restock after distributing facemasks to residents during state-wide screening for Coronavirus.
“The test kits donated will help fast-track the screening process while awaiting confirmation from the laboratory. Our goal is to test 5,000 and screen 500,000 people.
“The 10,000 pieces of medical gloves would assist our medical officers as they do their best to combat the scourge.”
The governor also use the medium to enjoin everyone to obey all directives by relevant agencies in tackling the spread of COVID-19.
