Facts Check: How do you identify and care for a child with diarrhoea?

According to the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), “Diarrhoea is the passage of loose or watery stool, at least three times within 24 hours.” The commonest cause of diarrhoea is infection with germs that get to the body through either water or food. Or through the hands.

How can we prevent diarrhoea?

  1. Handwashing and personal hygiene
  2. Proper excreta disposal
  3. Food hygiene
  4. Exclusive breastfeeding
  5. Good/portable water
  6. Immunization (measles)
  7. Administration of vitamin A, etc.
