“Government cannot on its own define hate speech” – Governor Wike

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has said, “government cannot on its own define hate speech”.

This is coming after the Minister of Information and Culture said, the Federal Government has increased fine for hate speech from N500,000 to N5,000,000.

According to Governor Wike, “there can’t be democracy without criticism. Government cannot on its own define hate speech. If anyone says any thing against the Government they tag it as hate speech. Their aim is to gag opposing views. We have the courts for anyone to seek redress against libel.”
