How NIMET demands N289k (€500+) for climate change data in Nigeria from a Nigerian student in Germany

With cases of corruption eating deep into every sector of the country daily, one may be force to believe, Nigeria is irredeemable.

A Twitter user with the handle Chibby @chibby_kay has shared a story of how the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) has asked a Nigerian student studying in Germany to pay the sum of N289,000 (€500+) for them to send climate change data in Nigeria to her.

According to Chibby;

“A student in Germany told me she requested data on rainfall for her thesis on climate change in Nigeria & Pakistan. Pakistan sent theirs but NIMET asked her to pay over 289k (€500+) for the data. She replied she couldn’t afford it as she’s only a student.

“They told her to send another appeal mail for a student discount and state “what she can afford to pay”. She mailed World Bank thereafter and got THE SAME data in days. What is this na?”
